Clinton: Create US Security Umbrella for Israel

Both Democratic presidential candidates threatened a tough response to Iran should it attack Israel, while sparring over the role of faith in American life and the validity of judging their candidacies by those with whom they associate during a debate Wednesday night.

"An attack on Israel would trigger massive retaliation from the United States," said New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who proposed that the US create a security umbrella for Israel and other allies in the region to protect them from a nuclear Iran. "So would an attack on those countries that are willing to go under the security umbrella and forswear their own nuclear ambitions."

Clinton pointed to Saudi Arabia and the UAE as states that had concerns about Iran's nuclear ambition. "We've got to deter other countries from feeling they have to acquire nuclear weapons," she said.

Both she and her rival for the Democratic nomination, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, had been asked whether it should be US policy to treat an Iranian attack on Israel as an attack on the US.

There is a worldwide conspiracy being orchestrated by an extremely powerful and influential group of genetically-related individuals (at least at the highest echelons) which include many of the world's wealthiest people, top political leaders, and corporate elite, as well as members of the so-called Black Nobility of Europe (dominated by the British Crown) whose goal is to create a One World (fascist) Government, stripped of nationalistic and regional boundaries, that is obedient to their agenda. Their intention is to effect complete and total control over every human being on the planet and to dramatically reduce the world's population by 5.5 Billion people. While the name New World Order is a term frequently used today when referring to this group, it's more useful to identify the principal organizations, institutions, and individuals who make up this vast interlocking spiderweb of elite conspirators. The Illuminati is the oldest term commonly used to refer to the 13 bloodline families (and their offshoots) that make up a major portion of this controlling elite.

White House doesn't deny Bush-to-Libby leak

In Scott McClellan's recent statements to the press regarding his apostasy, he says that one of the things that pushed him over the edge was the revelation on April 6, 2006, that President Bush had secretly authorized the selective release to reporters of classified information, something that both the president and his then-spokesman McClellan had been vigorously condemning in their public statements about the Valerie Plame leak case.

"I walk onto Air Force One and a reporter had yelled a question to the president trying to ask him a question about this revelation that had come out during the [Libby] legal proceedings," McClellan told the Today Show's Meredith Viera on Thursday morning. "The revelation was that it was the president who had authorized, or enabled, Scooter Libby to go out there and talk about this information. And I told the president that that's what the reporter was asking. He was saying that you, yourself, were the one that authorized the leaking of this information. And he said, 'Yeah, I did.' And I was kinda taken aback."

So "taken aback" evidently that he announced his resignation thirteen days later.

At Friday's morning gaggle in the White House briefing room I asked Press Secretary Dana Perino whether McClellan's claim about what Bush said to him on Air Force One was true. The classified information McClellan was talking about was the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq, portions of which were leaked to reporters in the summer of 2003 as part of the Bush administration's counter-attack on Joe Wilson, who had accused the White House of using twisted intelligence to support the invasion of Iraq.

Yesterday, another reporter asked a similar question, but had interpreted Scott's remark as referring to the Plame leak, which is not a claim McClellan explicitly makes. Raw Story

UBS tells unit staff to avoid US visits

UBS (NYSE:UBS) has told members of its former private banking team responsible for rich US clients not to travel to America.

The Swiss bank has also made lawyers available to the more than 50 bankers involved, many of whom have left UBS since it decided last November to wind down its cross-border private banking business for US customers.

The move follows the recent indictment of one of the unit's former senior executives, Bradley Birkenfeld, who US authorities have accused of helping a billionaire client evade taxes. Mr Birkenfeld has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers have made no public statement on the matter.

Lawyers for Mr Birkenfeld and the US government are due to appear before a judge next Monday "to resolve pre-trial motions and discovery problems", according to court documents.

Many members of UBS's former US team have left the bank amid concerns about the investigations and fears that the bank might not support them if arrested. "Many of us have the feeling we'd be expendable," said one former team member.

People familiar with the situation said these anxieties were exacerbated by UBS's decision last December to send most of its Swiss-based US team to Art Basel Miami, a Florida arts event the bank sponsors, even though US authorities were increasing their scrutiny of the bank's activities.

UBS's travel restrictions suggest it is concerned that the investigations by the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission may widen.

North Korea Won't Scrap Bombs

North Korea isn't planning to give up its nuclear bombs or weapons-grade plutonium, in breach of a six-nation agreement aimed at denuclearizing the nation, Yonhap News reported, citing former U.S. envoy Jack Pritchard.

The former North Korea policy coordinator, who now heads the Korea Economic Institute in Washington, met with regime officials in Pyongyang last month, who made clear they want light-water reactors in return for destroying their key nuclear plants, Yonhap reported.

The unidentified officials made no mention of turning over the weapons or plutonium that was manufactured at the Yongbyon reactor, he said at a seminar in Washington yesterday, according to the report.

The six-nation talks, involving the U.S., South Korea, North Korea, China, Japan and Russia, have stalled since Kim Jong Il's government missed a Dec. 31, 2007, deadline to declare its nuclear materials and installations. bloomberg

IRAN: Former German official says war imminent

An opinion piece by the former German foreign minister published today in a leading Middle East paper says that Israel is planning to attack Iran over its nuclear program.

Joschka Fischer, German's top diplomat from 1998 to 2005, is a visiting scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

He wrote a piece that appeared in today's Daily Star, an English-language Lebanese newspaper, arguing that President Bush's recent visit to the Middle East was a precursor to a war on Iran's nuclear program:

The Middle East is drifting toward a new great confrontation in 2008. Iran must understand that without a diplomatic solution in the coming months, a dangerous military conflict is very likely to erupt. It is high time for serious negotiations to begin.

Rough Sledding for Bush's Covert Iran Finding: Petraeus' Iran Obsession

Seven weeks ago, as exclusively reported in CounterPunch, President Bush signed what was formally designated as a "lethal finding" authorizing stepped-up covert actions on various fronts against Iran. The campaign was to cover a wide area of operations, from Lebanon to Afghanistan, wherever the hated Ayatollahs challenged American power. So far, according to former officials with knowledge of the finding, the results have been in line with most other U.S. initiatives in the region, i.e. the strengthening of Iran.

In Lebanon, the ambitious effort to get the Siniora government to hit at Hezbollah by ripping up the latter’s fiber-optic communications system (immune to US/Israeli electronic interception) ended with the U.S. surrogates in headlong retreat in the face of Hezbollah's efficiently swift occupation of Beirut, not only withdrawing their earlier demarche, but caving in to longstanding political demands by the Iran-allied group.

Washington may be drawing a little more encouragement from reports of activity inside Iran itself. In the north, PJAK, the U.S.-assisted Iranian Kurdish group killed six Iranian Revolutionary Guards within the last few days, while the bombing of the Martyrs Hossenieh mosque in Shiraz on April 12 that killed twelve people is now being blamed by the Iranians on U.S. funded groups. Iran: We are set to repel any attack

Iran will repel any attack against the country with dynamic combat strategies and full preparedness, a top military commander says.

"The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) can strike a fatal blow to the US and forever determine Iran's fate with its unpredictable moves and innovative tactics," said Deputy Head of Iran's Armed Forces General Headquarters Gholam-Ali Rashid.

Citing the 8-year war waged against Iran by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, the major general affirmed that Tehran does not seek to fight another battle but would repel violators at all costs.

According to Rashid, one of the reasons the US invaded Iraq and Afghanistan was to intimidate Iran.

The US has intensified its hawkish rhetoric against Iran; some pundits believe the Islamic Republic may come under US attack in the near future.

While Washington accuses Iran of provoking violence in Iraq, it has failed to provide concrete evidence to prove its claims.

The White House also claims that Iran is carrying out plans to develop nuclear weaponry, an allegation that has been refuted by 16 US spy agencies in their 2007 National Intelligence Estimate and by the UN nuclear watchdog. FULL STORY

Evidence against Iran Fabricated

Iran has said evidence and documents offered by the US to the UN nuclear watchdog against Tehran's nuclear program are not authentic.

"All evidence given by the United States against Iran's nuclear program is fabricated," Iran's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh told reporters in Vienna after the agency briefed its 35 members on Thursday.

The envoy's comments followed accusations by the United States and its allies that Iran was developing a military version of its nuclear program.

The Iranian ambassador called on the UN nuclear agency to preserve its impartiality and not to turn a blind eye on Iran's good cooperation.

"It is high time that the member states should have a complete picture in order to have a better judgment because… the board of governors has put pressure on the secretariat to give impartial, incomplete reports and has created for the past five years many misunderstandings," said Soltaniyeh.

During the meeting Washington used its influence to focus on what it calls Iran's lack of cooperation, while ignoring the constructive work between the Islamic Republic and the IAEA.

"As today's briefing showed us there were strong reasons to suspect that Iran was working covertly and deceitfully at least until recently to build a bomb," US permanent envoy to IAEA Gregory Schulte claimed.

"Iran is refused to explain and even acknowledge past work of weaponization. This is particularly troubling when combined with Iran's determined effort to master the technology to enrich uranium," Schulte alleged. The Register

Navy chief says Russia could have 100 warships in Ukraine

The Russian Navy commander said on Friday the Black Sea Fleet could increase the number of warships at its base in Sevastopol, in Ukraine's Crimea, to 100.

"The base agreement enables us to have up to 100 warships in the Black Sea Fleet, compared to the current figure of only 35; we may also have up to 25,000 personnel, while currently we only have 11,000," Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky told reporters in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

He said Russia needs the Black Sea Fleet to protect its national interests.

"Russia has strategic interests in the world's oceans, and it will defend them. We will be enlarging our presence."

"The Black Sea Fleet will remain in any event. And it will not simply remain, but will develop," he said, adding that Russia does not intend to withdraw its fleet from Sevastopol before the base agreement expires in 2017.

The Black Sea Fleet currently uses a range of naval facilities on the Crimean peninsula under an agreement signed in 1997. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko recently ruled not to extend the lease for Russia's Black Sea Fleet beyond May 28, 2017.

Frequent disputes have flared up between Russia and Ukraine over the lease of the naval facilities on the Crimean peninsula. In the latest row, Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov was barred from entering the former Soviet republic over his vociferous calls for the disputed ownership of a Russian naval base in Sevastopol to be transferred back to Russia.

Ukraine has been seeking NATO membership and EU integration ever since pro-Western President Yushchenko came to power on the back of the "orange revolution" in 2004.

Russia has repeatedly dismissed Ukraine's NATO bid as a violation of bilateral friendship agreements and said it will do all in its power to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.

Admiral Vysotsky arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday to discuss the expansion of military-technical cooperation and strengthening of regional security with Kyrgyz top military officials.

Russia currently has 41 intergovernmental agreements with Kyrgyzstan on security cooperation. Both countries are members of the two major regional security blocs in Central Asia - the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). RIA Novosti

INTERVIEW-Israeli Chertoff keen on Nazi Israeli airport security technology

U.S. Homeland Terrorist in Chief Michael Chertoff said on Thursday he will seek to adopt novel Israeli methods, like behaviour-detection technologies, to better secure America's airports.

"That's a scenario where Israel has a lot of experience," dual citizen Chertoff said in an interview with Reuters. "I think that it is of interest to us to see if there is any adaptation there."

Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport, known for its strict security measures, relies heavily on techniques that detect suspicious behaviour among travellers.

Chertoff said such methods, as well as Israeli technologies that detect explosives, are some of the things that may help protect U.S. airports and other public places against attacks.

Chertoff, at a conference in Jerusalem for public and homeland security ministers from around the world, signed an agreement with Israel to share technology and information on methods to improve homeland security.

One of the new systems presented at the conference, developed by the Israeli technology company WeCU, uses behavioural science, together with biometric sensors, to detect sinister intentions among travellers.

The U.S. homeland security chief said that not all methods developed and used in Israel, such as questioning every passenger, are practical in larger U.S. airports.

Israel's Ben Gurion handles about 9 million travellers a year while major U.S. hubs, like Chicago O'Hare, see some 76 million passengers.

"Not every technological approach here (in Israel) is necessarily applicable, but we are always open to look for technology from whatever source," Chertoff said.

Chertoff also said that the U.S. could not adopt border security methods used in Israel, which prevent Palestinian militants from entering its territory, for U.S. efforts to stop illegal immigrants from crossing its frontier with Mexico.

"(It's) a vastly longer border. It's not an area where there is much useful experience," he said.

Chertoff has recently cleared the way for the completion of nearly 500 miles of a planned barrier fence in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

"The challenge will be to keep moving forward. We need to continue to implement the measures we have in place and continue to look for additional things to match what the enemies are doing because they are constantly retooling themselves," he said.

Chertoff is expected to leave his post when President George W. Bush finishes his term in January 2009. (Editing by Jon Boyle) Reuters

Investigators raid German telecom giant in spy probe

Prosecutors raided Deutsche Telekom's headquarters on Thursday in a probe into an escalating scandal that has seen Europe's biggest phone company confess to spying on journalists.

"Since this morning there have been investigative procedures" at the Deutsche Telekom offices, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office in Bonn said.

Deutsche Telekom was forced to concede at the weekend that it had hired an outside firm to track hundreds of thousands of phone calls by senior executives and journalists to identify the sources of press leaks.

The Bonn-based company said the "ill-advised use of communications data" happened in 2005 and probably 2006 and has to date conceded only to spying on the magazine Capital.

But on Thursday the Financial Times Deutschland alleged that it became a victim of espionage by Deutsche Telekom several years earlier.

The daily alleged in a front-page report that Deutsche Telekom had hired private detectives to spy on its reporters in 2000 and had even secretly filmed the newsroom.

"Their main target was the FTD's chief reporter at the time, Tasso Enzweiler, who often broke stories about the telecommunication sector.

"The private detectives even used a hidden camera to try and get information about Enzweiler's source from the news room in Cologne," the newspaper said. Full article

Cops and Customs Agents Caught Drug Smuggling

New cases follow September 2007 crash of CIA plane containing 4 tonnes of cocaine

Following last September's crash of a Gulfstream jet used by the CIA for torture flights that contained 4 tonnes of cocaine, more customs officials and cops have been caught in drug smuggling and drug dealing rackets.

Customs supervisor Walter Golembiowski and officer John Ajello face narcotics, bribery and conspiracy charges after they were arrested for helping smuggle drugs and contraband through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"The investigation has led to the indictment and prosecution of more than 20 people — “from distributors to overseas sources of supply” — and the seizure of more than 600 pounds of imported hashish and other drugs from the United States and France," according to a CNN report.

Meanwhile in Texas, Cameron County Constable Saul Ochoa was arrested by the FBI yesterday morning for possession and distribution of marijuana.

Ochoa's brother is Justice of the Peace Benny Ochoa III of Port Isabel and his cousin is Port Isabel Police Chief Joel Ochoa.

"The grand jury charged Ochoa with possessing five to 10 pounds of marijuana on four different days in May with the intent to distribute. Each of the four counts carries a maximum five years in prison and $250,000 fine," according to a Brownsville Herald report.

While reports of customs agents and cops dealing drugs are almost routine, the real head of the hydra has always been CIA involvement in smuggling drugs that end up on America's streets, a symbiotic process that also helps finance wars and terrorist groups to do the bidding of the U.S. government around the world.

The corporate media will report on lesser drug smuggling scandals involving cops and customs agents, but when it comes to the gargantuan sprawling CIA drug smuggling racket, the silence is deafening.

In September 2007, a Florida based Gulfstream II jet aircraft # N987SA was forced to crash land in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula after it ran out of fuel.

After accident investigators arrived on the scene they discovered a cargo of nearly 4 tonnes of cocaine.

Journalists discovered that the same Gulstream jet had been used in at least three CIA "rendition" trips to Guantanamo Bay between 2003 and 2005.

Kevin Booth's underground hit documentary American Drug War features footage of former DEA head Robert Bonner admitting that the CIA was involved in cocaine smuggling operations.

Former DEA agent Cele Castillo, who has appeared on The Alex Jones Show many times, personally witnessed CIA drug smuggling operations funneled through terrorists that were also involved in kidnappings and the training of death squads on behalf of the U.S. government.

Investigative reporter Gary Webb was instrumental in exposing CIA cocaine trafficking operations before his alleged suicide in 2004. In the You Tube clip below, Webb traces the history of Agency involvement in drug smuggling and its links to financing wars in central America. Source

John Bolton escapes citizen's arrest at Hay Festival

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, has escaped an attempted citizen's arrest as he appeared at the Hay Festival.

Security guards blocked the path of columnist and activist George Monbiot, who tried to make the arrest as Mr Bolton left the stage.

The former ambassador - a key advisor to President George W Bush who argued strongly in favour of invading Iraq - had been giving a talk on international relations to more than 600 people at the literary festival.

Mr Monbiot was blocked by two heavily-built security guards at the end of the one-and-a-half hour appearance, before he could serve a "charge sheet" on him.

After being released by the guards the columnist - a fierce critic of the 2003 American-led invasion - made a dash through the rain-soaked tented village in a failed attempt to catch up with Mr Bolton.

A crowd of about 20 protestors, one dressed in a latex George Bush mask, chanted "war criminal" as Mr Bolton was ushered away.

Mr Monbiot said moments later he was "disappointed" that he had been blocked from making the citizen's arrest.

"This was a serious attempt to bring one of the perpetrators of the Iraq war to justice, for what is described under the Nuremberg Principles as an international crime," he said. London Telegraph

Will the MOSSAD Assassinate Obama?

Ever since the Middle Ages, there has always been one act which has been strictly prohibited. It is forbidden to speak of the death of the King.

British Communist and Nobel Laureate Doris Lessing is 88 years old, and has either decided she’s old enough to disregard the taboo, or else she’s gone senile and has forgotten this taboo exists. Lessing told an interviewer for a Swedish newspaper that ‘If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated.’ Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, ‘would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him,’ Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.”

The article goes on: “Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States. ‘The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama,’ she said.”

Ms. Lessing is delusional if she thinks Obama will be assassinated by the Klan. The US Government stamped out any organized illegal activity by the Klan and similar organizations decades ago. The Feds have gone on to persecute and harass LEGAL pro-White organizations to this day. Lessing is completely wrong about a threat from any racialist organization, but there may be other threats out there much more real.

Most assassinations in recent history have been done by rogue elements in our government or the MOSSAD. One little known fact is that JFK had opposed Israel’s secret nuclear weapons program while his successor Lyndon Johnson turned a blind eye to it (and even refused to allow US carrier aircraft to shoot down Israeli fighters attacking the USS Liberty).

The patsy for the JFK assassination, Lee Harvey Oswald, refused to go down quietly. Oswald was loudly protesting that he was a patsy during his two days in jail. Oswald was himself assassinated two days after JFK by Jack Ruby (formerly Jacob Rubenstein). The assassination of Bobby Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan appeared to be an early mind-control assassination, meant to create hostility between the US and Palestinians.

Arlen Spector (now a quasi-Republican Senator) invented the “single-bullet theory” to help cover up the JFK assassination. Lyndon Johnson appointed Gerald Ford to head the investigation even though Johnson considered Ford a bungling incompetent. Ford was later the target of two assassination attempts after he was appointed president with vice president Nelson Rockefeller.

Established governments almost never in the past used assassination as a tool until the rise of mind-control assassination techniques. Even then, assassination appeared to be largely a tool by rogue elements of the CIA to eliminate political undesirables within the US. Only the Israelis appear inclined to assassinate foreign politicians since they are immune from criticism in the Western press, and the MOSSAD has been largely successful at blaming certain terrorist events and assassinations on the Muslims.

The Bush and Clinton crime families seem to have their own private assassins working for them. The Clintons left a body trail from Arkansas to Washington, DC. A remarkable number of finance managers for the Clintons died mysteriously –burying any evidence of illegal mob money or foreign donors. Vince Foster famously wound up dead in a park while Clinton operatives ransacked his office. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, who threatened to go public about Clinton criminal activities, conveniently died as Air Force Two flew into a mountain in Croatia.

George H.W. Bush was vice president for Ronald Reagan, who was shot only two months after becoming president. The shooter, John Hinckley was the son of a major contributor to the Bush campaign. John Hinckley’s brother, Scott was going to have dinner with Bush’s son, Neil, the day of the shooting. George H.W. Bush had earlier been head of the CIA, which was rumored to be experimenting with mind-control assassinations. Perhaps, the younger Hinckley brother was seen as a weak-minded individual, who could be molded into such an assassin.

In the case of George W. Bush, a highly inconvenient woman, Margie Schoedinger, who dated Bush back in Texas, complained in 2002 that she had been kidnapped, drugged and raped. The police actually confirmed that Bush had dated Schoedinger years earlier, but this story never gained national attention. Margie Schoedinger was a Black woman, and Bush’s reputation as a normal, acceptable sort of guy would have been badly shaken if his predilection for dating Black women had become public. Schoedinger actually filed a lawsuit against George Bush claiming that he was behind the drugging and kidnapping. Margie Schoedinger was found dead shortly afterwards in 2003, and no one in the mainstream media has bothered to focus any attention on this death.

And what lies ahead for Barack Hussein Obama? There is widespread suspicion that he will be assassinated during the primary much like Robert Kennedy, clearing the way for Hillary. The assassination of a political candidate is much more forgettable than someone, who goes on to become president. If the Israelis carried out the mind-control assassination of Bobby Kennedy in 1968, then they may be brainwashing another Palestinian (or Saudi or Egyptian) even now. It would be very hard to imagine the Israelis tolerating an American president with the middle name “Hussein.” One key benefit for the Israelis is the fact that most Americans would suspect that Hillary was behind the assassination and not them.

It’s highly possible a significant number of Americans would vote against Hillary if an assassination took place since many would suspect she had a role in it. This could produce a victory for the otherwise unelectable John McCain. The Israelis don’t care if Hillary or McCain becomes president. Both are equally pro-Israel.

If Hillary is ordering the assassination, she will pull it off until it becomes necessary. If she can defeat Obama in the primary, then there’s no point in assassinating him. Hillary may resort to massive vote-stealing to win as she apparently did in New Hampshire.

In view of the high body count associated in the past with people who got in the way of Bill and Hillary Clinton, if I were Obama, I’d be ordering a set of Kevlar underwear. by Ian Mosley

Fascist Fox is trying to prepare the public about the possibility that the KKK ( See these 3 links: 1, 2, and 3) will assassinate Obama. That's a lie and hoax. What is certain is that the ADL ( a branch of the Mossad who finances the KKK groups) know the Mossad is up to no good again. Political assassinations are the Mossad trade marks. The KKK are used to perpetuate the myth of the persecution of Jews. The assassin will not be a Jewish KKK but a brainwashed Muslim patsy perhaps of the Iranian kind (?)

John Bolton to be target of citizen's arrest at Hay Festival

John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, faces a citizen's arrest when he addresses an audience at the Hay Festival in Wales this evening.

George Monbiot, the journalist and activist, is planning the action because he believes Mr Bolton is a "war criminal".

He said he was surprised that Mr Bolton would be allowed to "swim through the politest of polite soirees – which is of course Hay."

Mr Bolton, who was the American ambassador to the UN from August 2005 to January 2006, is due to talk at the Hay-on-Wye literary festival at 6.30pm on international relations.

Mr Monbiot, a columnist for The Guardian newspaper, plans to detain him as he steps off stage at the end of his talk. He said he was prepared to jump on stage and perform the citizen's arrest there if necessary.

He claimed Mr Bolton was "instrumental in preparing and initiating the Iraq war by disseminating false claims through the State Department" while he was under-secretary of state for arms control.

Mr Monbiot, who took part in a debate at Hay on Saturday entitled "Defeat: Why They Lost Iraq", has been a fierce critic of the decision to launch the 2003 invasion.

He said he had formally notified police of his intention of performing a citizen's arrest.

Mr Monbiot said: "This is the one opportunity we have, because he is mingling with the public, which doesn't happen very often."

He added: "I can't think of another case where someone who has been instrumental in planning the war has been exposed to the public, so I'm taking the opportunity.

Former White House spokesman: Bush used 'propaganda' to sell war

Update: Bush 'didn't remember' whether he'd tried cocaine, McClellan writes

In a new tell-all memoir on sale next week, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan writes that President Bush depended on propaganda to sell the Iraq war to the American public, The Politico reports.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, McClellan also reveals new details about allegations regarding Bush's former drug use that shadowed his 2000 campaign.

McClellan tracks Bush's penchant for self-deception back to an overheard incident on the campaign trail in 1999 when the then-governor was dogged by reports of possible cocaine use in his younger days.

The book recounts an evening in a hotel suite "somewhere in the Midwest." Bush was on the phone with a supporter and motioned for McClellan to have a seat.

"'The media won't let go of these ridiculous cocaine rumors,' I heard Bush say. 'You know, the truth is I honestly don't remember whether I tried it or not. We had some pretty wild parties back in the day, and I just don't remember.'"

"I remember thinking to myself, How can that be?" McClellan wrote. "How can someone simply not remember whether or not they used an illegal substance like cocaine? It didn't make a lot of sense."

Bush, according to McClellan, "isn't the kind of person to flat-out lie."

"So I think he meant what he said in that conversation about cocaine. It's the first time when I felt I was witnessing Bush convincing himself to believe something that probably was not true, and that, deep down, he knew was not true," McClellan wrote. "And his reason for doing so is fairly obvious — political convenience." Raw Story

McCain wants nuclear talks with China, Russia

Republican presidential candidate John McCain Tuesday pledged to launch a new dialogue with China and Russia to reduce nuclear weapons and proliferation, and backed a US-India civil nuclear pact.

The Arizona senator also took a fresh swipe at potential Democratic general election foe Barack Obama, over his offer to talk to the leaders of US foes like Iran, Syria and Cuba.

McCain has previously taken a tough line on Russia, even calling for Moscow to be thrown out of the Group of Eight industrialized nations club, over an erosion of democracy.

But in a speech in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, he proposed new cuts to reduce nuclear stockpiles.

"The Cold War ended almost twenty years ago, and the time has come to take further measures to reduce dramatically the number of nuclear weapons in the world's arsenals," McCain said.

"While we have serious differences, with the end of the Cold War, Russia and China are no longer mortal enemies," McCain said.

"As our two countries possess the overwhelming majority of the world's nuclear weapons, we have a special responsibility to reduce their number." Full article

China's Regime Conducts Military Exercise Operation to Simulate Nuclear War

The People's Liberation Army conducted its first-ever concurrent military exercise operation to simulate a nuclear war. The maneuvers were conducted from midnight April 26 through midnight May 15, 2008.

Operation '08-weiguo-20'
Military exercises simultaneously conducted in northern, middle, southwestern, and northwestern China were part of an operation code-named "08-weiguo-20."This was the first organized military exercise operation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) occurring after its 17th Congress and the 11th plenary session of the Political Consultative Conference. According to a high-ranking military official, judging from the scale of the engagement of the combined armed forces, the degree of sophistication of equipment, war strategy simulation, time, environment, and international concerns, the impact and significance of this exercise surpassed a military operation conducted by the regime in the spring and summer of 1996.

Four Parts of the Exercise
The military exercise consisted of four parts:

1) Integration of conventional weaponry in actual combat maneuvers
2) Testing the military tactics and strategies of high-level commanders with hi-tech criteria, in a simulated, complex, and intense war environment
3) Examination and assessment of actual state-of-the-art equipment and weaponry vis-a-vis the criteria of new military strategies and tactics
4) Simulation of nuclear and laser war

Guo Boxiong, deputy chairman of the military commission, was the commander-in-chief of this military project. The vice commanders were Liang Guanglie and Chen Bingde. Other commanding officers included Liao Xilong, Chang Wanquan, Ge Zhenfeng, Wu Shengli, Xu Qiliang, and Jing Zhiyuan.

Over 30 observation groups conducted on-site research. These groups were drawn from every division of the armed forces, including the seven major military bases, military schools, military science departments, and military equipment research and manufacturing units. Trend Magazine

World 'failing on human rights'

World leaders are failing to tackle human rights abuses around the globe, Amnesty International says.

In an annual report, the group says people are still being tortured or ill-treated in at least 81 countries.

In at least 54 states they face unfair trial and cannot speak freely in at least 77 nations, the group adds.

It says world leaders should apologise for 60 years of human rights failures since the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

The group also challenges them "to re-commit themselves to deliver concrete improvements".

US 'defiance'

The report - which covers 150 countries - was published ahead of the 60th anniversary of the human rights declaration, which was adopted on 10 December 1948.

Mary Robinson, who was from 1997 to 2002 the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said recognising the declaration was a very different matter from implementing it. Full article

'Stop playing with Iran nuclear case'

Iran's provisional Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani
A senior Iranian official says the West must stop passing the nuclear case back and forth between the Security Council and the G5+1.

"The West must stop its strange diplomatic scheme of passing Iran's nuclear case back and forth between the UN Security Council and the Group 5+1," said the provisional Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, as he addressed Iran's newly-formed eighth parliament on Wednesday.

"The eighth Majlis will not allow such deception to go on," he added.

The lawmaker described the recent IAEA report on Iran's nuclear program as 'regrettable'.

The latest International Atomic Energy Agency report has clarified that all the enrichment plant's nuclear material is under its inspection, as well as all the nuclear cascades, said Larijani.

The report indicates that the IAEA has not detected the use of nuclear material linked to any weaponization program, he added.

The report also says that the UN nuclear watchdog observes the status of Iran's heavy water production plant using satellite images, Larijani noted.

Larijani said the agency had used 'two-edged' statements in parts of the report, however, to 'enrich' the media coverage. Link

FBI Recruiting Infiltrators for GOP Convention Protestors

This gets complicated. According to - City Pages (Minneapolis/St. Paul), Moles Wanted, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is recruiting people to infiltrate anti-GOP protest groups in the run-up to the upcoming Republican convention.

The law is clear that police may attend public meetings undercover to see what people are up to. And of course undercover operations in private settings are also legal, although there should be guidelines as to when they are appropriate. And of course it’s good citizenship for private citizens to report crimes when they witness them.

But this story raises a number of serious questions.

First, there’s this: the FBI told the potential informant that he “would be compensated for his efforts, but only if his involvement yielded an arrest. No exact dollar figure was offered.”

In other words, the FBI is recruiting unpaid volunteers to become infiltrators. And they get paid only if they give information leading to an arrest. Which creates a serious incentive for agents provocateurs. This is not a sensible policy at all. It is in fact a very bad idea.

Second, there’s the weird description of the targets — “vegan potlucks” — and the general sense of massive overkill, which contributes to the chilling effect discussed in the article.

I also wonder whether a similar effort is underway for the Democratic convention (not that two wrongs make a right). If it is not, would that be because of a political bias in the FBI, or a considered judgment that McCain is more likely to be a target of violence than the first Black (or female) major-party Presidential candidate?

Bottom line: we don’t want violence, but we also don’t a stifling police presence that — whatever its motives — feels like an attempt to stifle dissent.

And we especially don’t want to live in an informer nation in which people with no training and who knows what personal agendas are offered a chance to make money by stirring up trouble and then phoning the FBI. Discourse.net

The Chickenhawk links Iraq, Afghan wars to WWII

Georgie boy the election thief presently squatting in the Whorehouse, DC, has linked the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to World War II asking the country for postwar rebuilding.

In a prepared address for Wednesday to more than 1,000 graduates of the US Air Force Academy, released by the White House, Bush framed the graduates' future to the World War II generation and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to postwar Germany and Japan six decades ago.

Bush said, "After World War II, we helped Germany and Japan build free societies and strong economies. These efforts took time and patience, and as a result Germany and Japan grew in freedom and prosperity and are now allies of the United States."

He added, "Today we must do the same in Afghanistan and Iraq and by helping these young democracies grow in freedom and prosperity we will once again reap the benefits in generations of security and peace."

Meanwhile, the country is still in debate over whether the Iraq war has bolstered the US security or weakened it. PressTV

Insider - CIA Murdered JFK Mistress

“The son of a top CIA official has laid his hands on a thick file of transcribed conversations between a writer and a retired senior CIA man. I have read through them and find them to be very entertaining (if you like black humor) and very enlightening. What old men with fond memories will say to a good listener is absolutely amazing.

Now we can expect CIA officials, retired and active and a number of the Washington in-crowd to play the Joe Lieberman card and demand that these be removed from the internet. Joe, who is a congenital asshole, wanted some pro-Arab postings taken down because they offended him. Wait until McCain reads what this ex-CIA boss has to say about him! You will hear him in Georgetown with the windows shut.

The CIA are still torturing people but are being very careful about it. We now know that the FBI agents working with them, were horrified by their brutality and reported their illegal actions to their senior officials in Washington . None of the agents, to their credit, would dirty their hands with this perverted and sadistic behavior but I note that their seniors sat on this.

Having read over period reports on some of this, all of it highly classified, it is my feeling that some of these perverted shits should be arrested and put on trial so the rest of the world can see the genuine filth and evil that the worthless Bush has deliberately unleashed. We ought to try Bush and give him a fair trial before we find him guilty, but that will never happen. “

Musical 'Tribute' To Zionist Bush America

From Visual Search comes this anti war video that was released and screened for the Bangaloreans Against Nuclearization (BAN) event on Hiroshima Day. "American War Paar Da!" translates to "Check Out that American War!" B Jayashree sings the song. This is a fresh perspective on America and American aggression from India.

This video is amazing, I don't think that we could have such a free and open criticism of America's foreign policy here these days. Most companies would freak out if one of their singers, or video crews, made such a video, even though it is laced with some humor.

Zionist AI to next US leader: ban torture

Zionist Amnesty International has urged the next US president to close the Gitmo prison, ban tortures and stop backing authoritarian regimes.

"For the USA to have moral authority as a human rights champion, the next administration must close Guantanamo and either try the detainees in ordinary federal courts or release them," the group said Tuesday, according to AFP.

"It must ban evidence obtained through coercion and denounce all forms of torture and other ill-treatment no matter to what end," it said. "It must ditch support for authoritarian leaders."

In its annual report, the global rights watchdog called on the new US leader to improve the "dismal record" left by US president George W. Bush and his Administration and mend the image of the US worldwide.

"The world needs a USA genuinely engaged and committed to the cause of human rights, at home and abroad," the report said.

Bush and his Administration have been blasted on the international scene for endorsing tortures and harsh methods of interrogation.

The US president and his team claim that America needs to exercise waterboarding, a simulated drowning technique described by many as torture, to perfectly end its 'war on terror'. FULL STORY

AMERICANS EMBRACING THE IRON FIST OF TOTALITARIAN GOVERNMENT

Despite the massive, overwhelming documentation proving that elite groups around the world have been planning the complete annihilation of this constitutional republic for a more than a hundred years, Americans continue to deny, deny, deny. Let me give you this example. It's an email I received a few days ago regarding a January 7, 2005, column I wrote titled, President Bush supporting global communist domination:

"That is the most absurd statement I have ever heard and you fail to detail just how this is transpiring. Either you are outright ignorant or you are joking. Communism is the exact opposite of what Georgie boy stands for. He is a capitalist and has tried to kill suspected terrorist communist Hugo Chavez. How in hell do you equate Bush with communism? You are too absurd to even bother with!"

I politely directed him to two columns for research: The Proper Role of America's Military and The Praetorian Guard. Of course, this person never bothered to get the facts from them because he addressed me as Sir in a snit he fired off:

"Sir, I have three graduate degrees, taught history and education courses in colleges and am 67 years old and I have done more research than you can even imagine. I eschew lying television news but you sound like a Fox bred brat. Don't tell me to do any more research, yours was faulty and at some two bit college no doubt. I am a big ten man. Get lost with your bunk! "

Wow! He's a big ten man! It is just this level of ignorance and denial that has allowed the destroyers to bring this nation to the brink of ruin and a police state. A closed mind is a dangerous weapon.

This country is full of Americans who also suffer from a mass case of infantilism. A couple of months ago a man who identified himself as a college professor wanted me to review his book. While I am sincerely flattered, it's impossible for me to read every request from individuals who write books. My Reading Room has a list of books I have read which I need to update it because I've read another hundred books since the posting. In any event, when I politely declined, this author sent me a snotty email telling me I was making a big mistake, his book had facts no one else had! Just like a little kid who can't have his way.

Hundreds, if not thousands of writers and investigative journalists have been pumping out the facts on the implementation of a one world government. We have exposed the players, the organizations and the politicians. We have exposed the corrupt "mainstream" media (print and electronic), including cable networks (MSNBC, FAUX, CNN) who lie through omission and openly support those who are carrying the water for the global lunatics. Our biggest cannon has been the Internet. This tool has allowed us to reach millions of Americans with the truth and we will continue to do so. However, the bottom line as I have said so many times before is that only we the people can stop these united States of America from becoming part of a global region is by rejecting the agenda. More

IAEA: No N-weaponization found in Iran

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei
The IAEA has not detected the use of nuclear material linked to Iran's "alleged studies" of weaponization, the agency's latest report says.

The findings are part of a restricted International Atomic Energy Agency report forwarded to the UN Security Council and to the 35 board members of the agency on Monday, May 26.

“The Agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran. Iran has provided the Agency with access to declared nuclear material and has provided the required nuclear material accountancy reports in connection with declared nuclear material and activities,” said the report, a copy of which was obtained by Press TV.

The IAEA holds the view that clarification of the alleged studies "on the green salt project, high explosives testing and missile re-entry vehicle project" is critical "to an assessment of the nature of Iran's past and present nuclear program."

"Iran has agreed to address the alleged studies," it said.

According to the report, Iran's response to a May 9 request by the UN nuclear watchdog to provide "additional clarifications" on the nuclear drive is currently being assessed by the agency.

Director General of the UN nuclear watchdog Mohamed ElBaradei called on Iran to "implement all measures required to build confidence in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program," the report added.

The West has been at loggerheads with Iran over the country's nuclear drive. Washington and its allies accuse Tehran of pursuing nuclear weaponry; claiming that Iran's uranium enrichment program is aimed at producing fuel for a nuclear weapons progmra - such substance could also be used to produce electricity in nuclear power plants.

IAEA's latest report came a week after ElBaradei said that there is no 'concrete evidence' that Iran is developing a nuclear bomb.

"We haven't seen indications or any concrete evidence that Iran is building a nuclear weapon and I've been saying that consistently for the last five years," ElBaradei said speaking at a May 20 session of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East.

The IAEA boss referred to a Dec 3 joint assessment by 16 US spy agencies, which conceded with 'high confidence' that Tehran is not running a nuclear weapons program, and said that the US intelligence report confirmed his agency's assessment on Iran. PressTV

Barack Obama supporter accuses Jewish lobby members of McCarthyism

A foreign policy expert consulted by Senator Barack Obama, the leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, has accused members of the American Jewish establishment of "McCarthyism" in its attitude towards critics of Israel.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, a former national security adviser, said that the pro-Israel lobby in the US was too powerful, while the slur of anti-Semitism was too readily used whenever its power was called into question.

Presenting a solution for the Middle East, he listed historical compromises that had to be made by Israelis and Palestinians but accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) – the largest and most influential Jewish lobby group – of obstructing peace efforts.

He said: "Aipac has consistently opposed a two-state solution and a lot of members of Congress have been intimidated and I don't think that's healthy."

He added that other country-specific lobbies, such as the Cuban-Americans, the Armenians and the Irish, had also exerted undue influence in Washington.

Mr Brzezinski, who served under President Jimmy Carter, was a key player in the 1978 Camp David Accords and remains an important voice in the US foreign policy establishment. More Crap

CIA planning for al-Qaida 'succession crisis'

The question is who will replace bin Laden if he's caught or killed
The U.S. is making "a big and continual push" to capture or kill al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, but his demise won't end the organization's menace, CIA Director Michael Hayden said Tuesday in an Associated Press interview.

The CIA is equally interested in those jockeying to replace bin Laden in what he predicted will be a "succession crisis."

"It will be really interesting to see how that plays out. The organization is a lot more networked than it is ruthlessly hierarchical," Hayden said of the group behind the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. "How do you pick the next overall leader?"

A number of Egyptians are now part of al-Qaida's top echelon and may struggle for power among themselves. Bin Laden's current No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is an Egyptian.

Despite al-Qaida's resilience, taking out bin Laden would be a psychological blow to the organization, Hayden said.

"If there ever was a sense of invulnerability I think killing or capturing him would shatter it once and for all," he said. MSNBC

American testifies he gave cash to Israel's leader

A Jewish-American businessman testified Tuesday in a corruption probe that threatens to bring down Prime Monster Ehud Olmert, saying he handed cash-stuffed envelopes to the Israeli politician he described as a bon vivant with a penchant for fancy hotels, fine cigars and first-class travel.

Morris Talansky's testimony offered an unflattering portrait of Olmert just as the already unpopular Israeli leader seeks to rally reluctant public support for peace talks with Syria and the Palestinians.

Police suspect Nazi Olmert illicitly took up to $500,000 from Talansky in illegal campaign contributions or bribes before becoming prime minister in 2006. Olmert, who denies wrongdoing, says the funds were legal contributions but has promised to step down if indicted.

Legal affairs analyst Moshe Negbi said Talansky's testimony suggests Olmert could face charges of bribery and breach of trust. "I don't think that there were ever such grave suspicions against a prime minister in Israel," Negbi said.

Olmert's lawyer Eli Zohar labeled Talansky's testimony "twisted" and said the truth would be revealed in the cross-examination, which is set for July 17. AP

Karl Rove’s Dirty Tricks May Usher in a McCain Presidency

Get ready for McCain and another four years of the neocons. According to Jason Leopold, “Timothy Griffin, a central figure in the U.S. Attorney scandal and a protégé of Republican political guru Karl Rove, reportedly has been hired to dig up dirt on likely Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.” Griffin is a seasoned dirty trickster. Only time will tell what kind of dirt he will excavate on Obama. But a few minutes with Google provides more than a clue, that is if the corporate media is in the mood to listen.

And what in particular will the filthy tricksters dredge up? Larry Sinclair. “The electrifying presidential campaign of Barack Obama faces a new challenge – a Minnesota man who claims he took cocaine in 1999 with the then-Illinois legislator and participated in homosexual acts with him,”

WorldNetDaily reported back in February. The corporate media has ignored Sinclair’s allegations, but that didn’t stop Sinclair from making a YouTube video and filing a suit in Minnesota District Court, alleging threats and intimidation by Obama’s staff. No doubt Griffin and Evil Karl are salivating as they wait out the absurd Democrat primary process as it turgidly as a soap opera crawls toward completion. It looks like the Dem superdel process will anoint Obama at Clinton’s expense, not that she needs much help losing out as she keeps making boneheaded comments, most recently insinuating Obama might end up like RFK. Or maybe that should be Vince Foster. Kurt Nimmo

Russia to withdraw radar offer if U.S. missile shield goes ahead

Russia will withdraw its proposals for the joint use of radar stations in south Russia and Azerbaijan if the U.S. deploys its missile shield in Central Europe, a defense ministry official said Tuesday.

The U.S. plans to place 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar station in the neighboring Czech Republic. Russia has fiercely opposed the idea, saying it would destroy the strategic balance of forces and offered the U.S. the use of radar stations at Armavir in southern Russia and Gabala in Azerbaijan as alternatives.

"If the U.S. deploys the third positioning unit in Poland and the Czech Republic, Russia will withdraw its proposals on Armavir and Gabala," said the deputy head of the ministry's international cooperation department, Lt. Gen. Yevgeny Buzhinsky.

The offer by Russia was made as an alternative to the U.S. missile defense plans rather than in addition to them, he added.

Washington wants to deploy its missile defense elements in Central Europe purportedly to counter a missile threat from Iran and other "rogue" states. However, Russia dismisses all statements about Iran's nuclear threat saying that Tehran has neither the military potential nor interest in attacking European countries, its major trading partners. Iranian aid seen growing among militants on Israel's flanks

(Have you heard of zioganda?) Rockets and weapons bearing signs of Iranian paint, lettering and serial numbers are making their way into the Gaza Strip and Lebanon — helping Tehran cement its powerful role within militant movements on Israel's northern and southern flanks, senior Israeli security officials say.

The weapons, including an 18-inch fragment of a Grad-type Katyusha rocket seen by The Associated Press, are believed to be reaching blockaded Gaza through a clandestine network: by sea from Sudan to Egypt's Red Sea ports and then by land through the Sinai desert to tunnels that cross into the coastal strip, according to the officials.

Trucks and airplanes also carry Iranian-made rockets across the Syrian-Lebanese border, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity under military restrictions.

Hezbollah guerrillas bombarded Israel with nearly 4,000 rockets in their 2006 war. After recent clashes across Lebanon killed at least 67 people, Hezbollah forced the weakened Lebanese government into concessions that could free the guerrilla group to bring in even more rockets.

The Israeli claims — although expressed privately by security authorities — have not been backed up by a public display of evidence, leading some analysts to question the extent of Iranian involvement on Israel's borders. Iran, Hezbollah and Palestinian militants all deny an Iranian arms connection, though some Hezbollah militants privately acknowledge getting arms from Tehran. More

Tensions rise as UN says Russian air force downed Georgian drone

Tensions between Tbilisi and Moscow increased yesterday after a UN report concluded that the Russian air force had shot down an unmanned Georgian spy drone over the breakaway region of Abkhazia.

The UN's mission in Georgia said a Russian fighter jet had downed the spy plane on April 30 - despite vehement denials by Moscow. Based on video footage, witnesses and radar records, the UN report backs up Georgia's claim that Russia is giving military aid to Abkhazia, a separatist Black Sea region that broke away from Georgia after the 1992-93 war.

But the UN also criticises Tbilisi for violating the terms of a 1994 ceasefire. Georgia has sent at least three spy drones over Abkhazia since March, the report said, despite a ban on surveillance aircraft.

Dramatic video footage from the drone shows a jet fighter swooping into view, before firing a short-range missile. The video then goes blank. The report said the fighter was a MiG-29 or Su-27, types neither of which Abkhazia owns.

The jet then flew off into Russian airspace, the report added. "Absent [of] compelling evidence to the contrary, this leads to the conclusion that the aircraft belonged to the Russian air force," said the report, which was posted on the UN mission in Georgia's website.London Guardian

Russia says UN's Georgia spy plane probe unreliable

Russia said on Tuesday it did not have confidence in a UN probe into Georgia's allegations that a Russian aircraft shot down an unmanned reconnaissance plane last month as it was based on unreliable evidence.

The UN mission in Georgia confirmed in a report on Monday the ex-Soviet state's claims that a reconnaissance drone had been shot down by the Russian Air Force over the breakaway region of Abkhazia on April 20.

"The quality of the enquiries is questionable in general," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "A whole range of conclusions in the UN report raises questions. We do not doubt the UN experts' professionalism, but have no confidence in the evidence provided - video footage and some radar recordings." RIA Novosti

Top Source Says Bush To Strike Iran By August

Asia Times says two U.S. Senators already briefed on attack plan

The George W Bush administration plans to launch an air strike against Iran within the next two months, an informed source tells Asia Times Online, echoing other reports that have surfaced in the media in the United States recently.

Two key US senators briefed on the attack planned to go public with their opposition to the move, according to the source, but their projected New York Times op-ed piece has yet to appear.

The source, a retired US career diplomat and former assistant secretary of state still active in the foreign affairs community, speaking anonymously, said last week that that the US plans an air strike against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). The air strike would target the headquarters of the IRGC's elite Quds force. With an estimated strength of up to 90,000 fighters, the Quds' stated mission is to spread Iran's revolution of 1979 throughout the region.

Targets could include IRGC garrisons in southern and southwestern Iran, near the border with Iraq. US officials have repeatedly claimed Iran is aiding Iraqi insurgents. In January 2007, US forces raided the Iranian consulate general in Erbil, Iraq, arresting five staff members, including two Iranian diplomats it held until November. Last September, the US Senate approved a resolution by a vote of 76-22 urging President George W Bush to declare the IRGC a terrorist organization. Following this non-binding "sense of the senate" resolution, the White House declared sanctions against the Quds Force as a terrorist group in October. The Bush administration has also accused Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons program, though most intelligence analysts say the program has been abandoned. Muhammad Cohen

'Titanic' Hunt Cover To Find 2 Sunken US Nuke Subs

The man who located the wreck of the Titanic has revealed that the discovery was a cover story to camouflage the real mission of inspecting the wrecks of two Cold War nuclear submarines.

When Bob Ballard led a team that pinpointed the wreckage of the liner in 1985 he had already completed his main task of finding out what happened to USS Thresher and USS Scorpion.

Both of the United States Navy vessels sank during the 1960s, killing more than 200 men and giving rise to fears that at least one of them, Scorpion, had been sunk by the USSR.

Dr Ballard, an oceanographer, has admitted that he located and inspected the wrecks for the US Navy in top secret missions before he was allowed to search for the Titanic.

Only once he had used his new underwater robot craft to map the submarine wreck sites was he able to use it to crisscross the North Atlantic seabed to pinpoint the last resting place of the luxury liner. It meant he had only 12 days to find the Titanic.

“I couldn’t tell anybody,” he said. “There was a lot of pressure on me. It was a secret mission. I felt it was a fair exchange for getting a chance to look for the Titanic.

“We handed the data to the experts. They never told us what they concluded – our job was to collect the data. I can only talk about it now because it has been declassified.”

Dr Ballard said what he had seen during the inspection of the wrecks gave him the idea of finding a trail of debris that would lead to the main sections of the Titanic. Thresher, had imploded deep beneath the surface and had broken up into thousands of pieces and Scorpion was almost as completely destroyed. “It was as though it had been put through a shredding machine. There was a long debris trail.” Dr Ballard developed a robotic submarine craft in the early 1980s and approached the US Navy in 1982 for funding to search for the Titanic, which sank in 1912 with the loss of 1,500 lives after hitting an iceberg. IRAN ACCUSED OF NOT PROVING IT IS NOT DOING SOMETHING IT HAS BEEN ACCUSED OF DOING.

According to the Murdoch owned ‘The Australian’ newspaper, “Iran continues to defy UN demands to suspend uranium enrichment and has yet to disprove allegations that it was pursuing nuclear power for military use.”

First off, one should be quite clear about who is demanding what from whom here. It is the US and Israel and their allies that are making the demands in order to isolate and demonise Iran as part of their propaganda and rhetoric campaign to gain public support for ‘regime change’ in Iran. The UN has only gone along with their charade simply to buy time and not give the US and Israel the excuse they are looking for to bomb Iran into ‘regime change’.

Iran has no legal obligation in International law to suspend uranium enrichment at the demand of anyone. As a signatory of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and in accordance with Article IV of the NPT, Iran is quite entitled to pursue the science and technology required for nuclear enrichment for peaceful purposes such as power generation. It is true that under Article III of the NPT that Iran does have certain obligations to demonstrate that its nuclear program indeed does exclude the pursuit of nuclear weapons. But, despite years of accusations from Israel and the US that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program, the IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog, has not found a single skerrick of evidence to suggest that Iran is doing anything other than developing its nuclear program in pursuit of nuclear power generation. Globalist Thomas P.M. Barnett’s Vision for the Middle East

Thomas Barnett, author of The Pentagon’s New Map, has an op-ed in the Deseret News that dovetails quite well with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s call for America to impose a naval blockade on Iran.

Follow this link to the original source: Nuclear Iran could provide chance for Mideast stability"

Who is Thomas P.M. Barnett?

As a professor at the U.S. Naval War College, he sees himself as a Jack Ryan, and describes his job as follows: "...the military pays me to sit around and think about the future of the world.... I worry about everything" (The Pentagon's New Map, p. 12).

Professor Barnett is the author of The Pentagon’s New Map: War and Peace in the Twenty-First Century (2004) and Blueprint for Action (2005). Barnett's thesis is that the world is divided into two groups: the "Functioning Core," and the "Non-Integrating Gap." What is the difference between the two?

According to an article Barnett wrote for Esquire in March 2003,

Show me where globalization is thick with network connectivity, financial transactions, liberal media flows, and collective security, and I will show you regions featuring stable governments, rising standards of living, and more deaths by suicide than murder. These parts of the world I call the Functioning Core, or Core. But show me where globalization is thinning or just plain absent, and I will show you regions plagued by politically repressive regimes, widespread poverty and disease, routine mass murder, and — most important — the chronic conflicts that incubate the next generation of global terrorists. These parts of the world I call the Non-Integrating Gap, or Gap.

Members of the "Functioning Core" include the United States, European Union, Russia, China, and the Pacific Rim countries, and others that are adapting to "globalization." The "Non-Integrating Gap" is comprised of countries that must be forced militarily to accept globalization and become part of the "Core." More

U.S. Fourth Fleet in Venezuelan Waters

With U.S. saber rattling towards Venezuela now at its height, the Pentagon has decided to reactivate the Navy’s fourth fleet in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

It’s a bold move, and has already stirred controversy within the wider region.

The fleet, which will start patrolling in July, will be based at the Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida and will answer to the U.S. Southern Command in Miami. Rear Admiral Joseph Keran, current commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command, will oversee operations. About 11 vessels are currently under the Southern Command, a number that could increase in future. The Navy plans to assign a nuclear-powered air craft carrier, USS George Washington, to the force.

It’s difficult to see how the revival of the Fourth Fleet is warranted at the present time. The move has only served to further antagonize Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, already rattled by a U.S. navy plane’s violation of Venezuelan airspace over the weekend. In the long-term, the Pentagon’s saber rattling may encourage South American militaries to assert great independence from Washington, a trend which is already well under way as I discuss in my new book, Revolution! South America and the Rise of the New Left (Palgrave-Macmillan).
