California's last car plant faces closure
Citing unidentified sources, Kyodo News agency said that the upcoming negotiations would pave the way for Toyota to pull out of the New United Motor Manufacturing Co., or NUMMI.
Earlier Toyota announced that it might close its business NUMMI after GM cut operating ties to the plant in late June.
The two giant carmakers are trying to reach a deal over the future of the plant by the end of August.
"There are a number of difficult and complex issues that we need to address before making any final decisions with respect to NUMMI, and as a result, this process will take more time," Toyota said in its statement.
