Bush says US will support Israel if Iran attacks, again

Israel would have US support if it came under attack by Iran, US President George W Bush said Wednesday.

'I hope it doesn't happen,' Bush told CNN. 'You are asking me to answer a hypothetical. My answer is, and they've got to understand that we'll support Israel if Iran attacks them.'

Bush was interviewed by CNN one day after brokering a deal between the Israelis and Palestinians to to resume negotiations on a settlement for the first time in seven years.

The agreement came out of a US-hosted peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland on Tuesday with the participation of more than 40 counties, including 16 Arab states.

Iran was not invited to attend, and has dismissed the conference as illegitimate."
