NATO says US has right to hit Pakistan
NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer |
"I cannot think of anyone who would consider it acceptable that many terrorists from all over the world gather in a certain area and create mischief and havoc there," NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer told reporters after talks with President Hamid Karzai in Kabul.
"The bottom line is that the present situation cannot be acceptable for anyone," he was quoted by the AFP as saying.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith in Perth on Friday described the Afghanistan-Pakistan border as "a hotbed of terrorism," saying that what happened there had regional and international consequences.
There are still mounting fears in Pakistan that the United States and its western allies are prepared to launch military "hot pursuit" raids into the troubled Pakistani tribal belt as insurgent attacks soar in Afghanistan.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had earlier warned the US that any invasion would be very counter-productive, and the people of Pakistan would react very strongly against it. PressTV
